Is your synagogue kosher?

Yes. In short, we are dairy/vegetarian in everything we bring into the building. For our full Kashrut Policy, click here.

What are your hours?

Staff is generally in the building M-F, 9am-5pm, except on Jewish holidays. Additionally, the synagogue is open during Shabbat and holidays. Please ring our doorbell!

Where can I park?

As downtown Detroit has grown and developed, parking can be challenging. There are paid lots located near the synagogue, metered spaces are available on Griswold, Clifford, and Washington via app (Park Detroit) or kiosk. Parking tickets are very expensive so don't forget to pay for your parking! For more information on parking options, click here.

We love sharing our historic building and synagogue with locals and visitors to the city. To schedule a tour, please contact us.

Is the synagogue handicap accessible?

Yes! We have an ADA compliant elevator that goes to all four floors and we have gender neutral restrooms on floors one, three and four that are handicap accessible.

What are your services like?

Stay up to date on our Shabbat schedule by checking the community calendar. We hold Kabbalat Shabbat services on select Friday nights at 6pm. Every Saturday morning, we have Shabbat services beginning at 10:30am. The dress code is informal and after services on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, we offer kiddush and a communal meal. You will find our services and the meals afterwards to be a very warm and friendly atmosphere, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Who is welcome at the Downtown Synagogue?

We are egalitarian and LGBTQ and interfaith friendly. Our community is diverse across race, age, and Judaic background.
