Rabbi's Message: Get Out The Vote
Between now and March 10, please vote three times!
I was born in Chicago, a city famous for the phrase "vote early and vote often," and I encourage you to do so...but admittedly in a manner different than what the phrase originally implied.
First, please make sure you are registered to vote in Michigan
or wherever you reside. If you are eligible to vote but not yet registered, please do so online or there are voter registration forms available at IADS. Then, if you're a Michigander, vote in the Michigan primaries on March 10 (or earlier by absentee ballot).
Second, please consider voting in the elections for the next World Zionist Congress, the international "parliament of the Jewish people," which makes decisions and sets policies regarding key institutions that support global Jewish life and which allocates nearly $1 Billion annually to support Israel and World Jewry. There are many slates representing different political beliefs and religious denominations. In order to vote, you need to meet the eligibility criteria, pay $7.50, and vote between now and March 11.
And in addition to voting for a presidential nominee and a slate to help allocate $1Billion, please show up on February 29th and vote (through loud applause) at the Bethel Community Transformation Center for...well...the allocation of a small prize and champion status to an IADS/BCCI Motown Lip Sync Battle team. While it may not seem as significant, I can assure you that it will make you smile, which perhaps we all need as we keep on voting in the months to come.
